Quick answer
If you pay Spotify directly, open your Spotify account page, go to Manage your plan and choose Cancel subscription. A paid Premium plan normally stays active until the next billing date, then the account switches to Free.
How to cancel a direct Spotify subscription
Spotify's current process is handled from the account page rather than by deleting the app.
- Sign in to the Spotify account that holds the subscription.
- Open Manage your plan or Manage your subscription.
- Choose Cancel subscription and continue through the confirmation flow.
- Check the account page for the date Premium is due to end.
What happens after cancellation
For a normal paid subscription, Spotify says Premium continues until the next billing date and the account then changes to Free.
Your playlists and saved music remain on the account. Premium-only benefits such as offline music and ad-free playback end when the plan ends.
If Spotify is billed by a partner
If the account is billed through a phone provider, internet provider or another partner, Spotify may not show the normal cancellation option.
In that case, Spotify directs you to the partner details shown on the account page so cancellation can be handled by the company managing the subscription.
Family and Duo are different for managers and members
A plan manager can cancel the overall Family or Duo subscription. A normal member leaving the plan does not cancel the manager's bill.
If you are a member rather than the manager, confirm what action you are taking before continuing so you do not confuse leaving a plan with cancelling it.
Common questions
Do I lose my playlists when I cancel?
No. Spotify says playlists and saved music remain when the account switches to Free.
Does Premium stop immediately?
For a normal paid subscription, it generally continues until the next billing date. Zero-priced trial rules can differ.
Why can't I see a cancel option?
The plan may be billed by a partner. Spotify directs users to the partner information on the account page in that situation.
