Quick answer
Premium Student is for eligible higher-education students in supported markets. Spotify currently uses SheerID for verification, requires re-verification every 12 months, and limits the discounted period to up to four years.
How verification works
Spotify directs applicants through SheerID. Depending on the institution, verification can use a school portal or supporting enrollment documents.
After SheerID confirms eligibility, the student still needs to return to Spotify and apply the Student subscription to their Spotify account.
The discount is not permanent
Spotify says Student eligibility must be renewed and reverified every 12 months, with a maximum discounted period of four years.
If the discount expires and is not renewed, the account can continue on the standard Individual rate unless it is cancelled or changed.
Eligibility and extras vary by market
Student pricing differs by country, and some bundled benefits are market-specific. For example, Spotify's US Student offer currently includes a Hulu benefit that should not be assumed elsewhere.
Your country, institution and payment method can all affect whether the offer is available.
What to do if verification fails
Spotify says SheerID manages the verification process. If an institution is not listed, it may not currently be eligible in that market.
Use Spotify and SheerID's official support routes rather than submitting inaccurate enrollment information.
